The Simplicity of an Organic Mattress

The Simplicity of an Organic Mattress

In recent years, consumers have become increasingly distrustful of the brands they’re buying products from. From grocery stores to beauty and skincare, people have latched onto the inherent issues with leading a health-minded lifestyle (being active, eating healthy) and then rubbing in tons of chemicals, parabens, and silicones into our skin while using lotions and makeup.

In the food industry, the conundrum of “greenwashing” has led to an inundation of terms like “organic” and “natural” on food items, though regulation of the truth in these terms has been historically lax. As more consumers grow concerned with what they’re putting into their bodies (and their family’s bodies), the organic revolution has taken hold.

Now, people are more concerned with labels and ingredients than ever before. According to Everyday Health, nearly 50 percent of women seek out all-natural or organic ingredients in their skincare products and buy ones that are free from chemicals like phthalates and sulfates.

Furthermore, eight out of 10 consumers in the same study claimed to be more conscious about their health, opting to buy products with fewer ingredients that they can understand and pronounce.

Until there is more regulation on commonly misused and “greenwashed” terms, people can make a concentrated effort to choose healthier, safer products in all aspects of life—including your sleep environment. The key is simplicity.

What we mean by simplicity

If you’ve ever been shopping for a new brand of peanut butter, you might’ve looked at the 10-15 different jars and thought, What makes all of these different? The answer is: their ingredients.

Some jars will have just one ingredient: peanuts. (This would be the healthiest option.) Other jars, though, have ingredients like “partially hydrogenated oil” or sugar, which means there’s plenty of artery-clogging saturated fats inside the jar.

In this case, there is no excuse for choosing the peanut butter with loads of oils and other unnecessary ingredients. Peanut butter made from peanuts alone will taste (mostly) the same. But without label reading, you’ll never know how simple—or how complex—the jar of peanut butter you’re buying might really be.

Celebrating simplicity

When it comes to buying any product out there that is made from various materials, chemicals, or ingredients (which means anything manufactured), embracing simplicity is key. As a rule of thumb: the less, the better.

Since we care deeply about the health and wellness of our customers at Naturepedic, we want to talk a little bit about the importance of choosing simplicity not just in areas of your life like nutrition and beauty, but in your bedroom as well.

Oftentimes, conventional mattress companies make mattresses and bedding that are ripe with toxic chemicals – such as harmful fire-retardants, synthetic latex, and VOC-releasing petroleum products. Consumers who always look for a deal might fall privy to the latest discount or promotion without ever reading into the materials used to make the mattress.

At Naturepedic, we do the hard work (and all the research) for you. Since our founding, we have made it our priority to choose simplicity at every turn—the simplest materials with no harmful chemicals; the simplest manufacturing process that eliminates any non-organic processes. That's right—we even hand-sew parts of our mattresses with needle and organic thread.

You can trust that Naturepedic’s organic mattresses are, first of all, wholly and certifiably organic, and secondly, made with simple, straightforward materials like organic cotton, organic latex, and organic wool.
