At Naturepedic, we care deeply about all matters of health and wellness, especially in terms of safe, healthy sleep. Recently, the reality of men’s mental and physical health has been of particular concern in America, where a shocking number of men die every year from illnesses such as heart disease, cancer, suicide, diabetes, and kidney disease, to name a few of the most common causes.
While the Office on Women’s Health (OWH) was established in 1991 by the U.S. Department of Health to improve women’s health through policy, education, and innovative programs, there is no equivalent office tailored specifically to men’s health and wellness needs.
To save men’s lives, advocates are now calling for public health campaigns, resources, and coordination at the federal level to establish a U.S. Office on Men’s Health.
At the center of this initiative for a new U.S. Office on Men’s Health is Gabe Canales, who founded Blue Cure after being diagnosed with prostate cancer 10 years ago when he was 35 years old.
“Men’s mental and physical health issues are something we don’t bring up much—there are shockingly few resources on men’s health that don’t focus on issues outside of low-T, how to bulk up, or erectile dysfunction,” Canales shared in a recent article. “We are silent on the rest."
Now, Canales is on an impactful mission to establish a U.S.Office on Men’s Health that will maintain a mission of improving men’s wellness through education and policy, similar to the OWH. He has reached out the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to petition this change and is asking for the support of men and women to make this happen.
