The breathable cover features a three-dimensional fabric for added airflow and a waterproof backing so no extra protector pad is required. This pracitcal approach makes it easy to keep your baby's crib clean and fresh even after spit-ups, leaky diapers and other messes. It provides firm support and an allergy-friendly design. NO polyurethane foam, memory foam, vinyl/PVC, phthalates and more. Breathability Done Right
According to airflow tests, a breathable sleep surface may increase safety by allowing air to flow more freely around the baby. The breathable cover features a soft organic cotton surface and a 3-dimensional polyester lattice structure that allows air to flow through the fabric and under the baby for 360° air circulation. Since air is able to pass freely through the cover’s 3D structure, babies can breathe right through it! Breathable mattresses may also improve comfort. Babies tend to cry more when they're uncomfortable and airflow under the baby allows heat to dissipate more efficiently, helping regulate temperature for less sweaty backs.
Practical Design
The breathable function is encapsulated in a washable cover that completely hugs the mattress. This removable layer has a waterproof backing that keeps the mattress clean and protected from urine, spit-up, and other messes. In the event of an accident, simply replace with a spare cover or put the baby back to sleep on the fully functional underlying mattress. The cover can then be machine washed and dried at your convenience.

Yes.
Do I need a waterproof mattress protector?
Since the mattress itself is waterproof, all messes can be cleared up by wiping the mattress clean with water and/or soap. However, it is recommended that you use an organic crib mattress protector underneath the sheet for added convenience. When it's 3 AM, it's nice to be able to just throw a pad in the wash and go back to sleep:)

How firm should a crib mattress be?
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) recommend a firm, flat crib mattress. If it feels comfy to you, it's probably too soft for your baby. This is sometimes surprising for new parents since it is counterintuitive. But it is actually safer.Soft mattresses can form depressions that may become a suffocation hazard. Additionally, if the baby is in an uncomfortable position or needs to move their head or body in order to get clear of an obstruction, it will be much easier on a firm surface. For an adult, it's like the difference between being stuck in a giant pile of pillows, which is difficult to crawl out of, versus a surface that has resistance when pushed against. The last thing we want is for the baby to feel "stuck" in a position on a soft mattress.
