it all starts with real fibers
mother nature's recipe for true comfort
the best earth has to offer
Packed with real fibers like certified organic cotton, pla, wool alpaca and cashmere, Naturepedic mattresses are super breathable. Each of these fibers has uniqe properties that work together to create a symphony of comfort characteristics for the best natural sleep possible.
organic cotton
From luxurious fabrics to fluffy fill, Naturepedic uses GOTS certified organic cotton throughout its products. Organic cotton is the purest form of cotton and a healthier alternative to synthetic fabrics and foams. Naturepedic uses only U.S. grown and certified organic cotton as filling for its mattresses and buys directly from USDA certified sources. This increases purity, organic reliability and support for U.S. farmers.
organic wool
Wool has many characteristics that make it ideal for use in mattresses. For starters, it has a natural curl which gives it bounce and body, mimicking thousands of tiny springs. It also wicks away moisture and traps air within the fiber itself, providing exceptional temperature regulation. Temperature changes are slow and gradual, creating a stable microclimate for less tossing and turning. GOTS certified organic wool facilitates healthy, well treated sheep and the elimination of harmful chemicals in the processing of the wool.
pla fiber
PLA fiber is a synthetic fiber derived from renewable resources that is GOTS approved for use in certified organic mattresses. Naturepedic formulates its PLA exclusively from non-GMO sugarcane, which is then fermented in a process similar to making yogurt to create lactic acid (a naturally occurring material that gives the “tang” to yogurt and makes your muscles ache after a work-out). From lactic acid, a molecule called lactide is created. Water is then removed and it gets crystallized to create the high-performance polymer – polylactide (PLA). PLA's unique qualities add resiliency and moisture wicking properties for increased comfort and reduced body impressions.
GOTS approved latex
made from the sap of rubber trees
Latex sap is a sticky, milky colloid drawn by making incisions in the bark of the Hevea Brasiliensis rubber tree and collecting the fluid in a process called "tapping". This process is not harmful to the trees. In fact, a single tree is typically tapped for up to 28 years. Rubber trees gain about 24 inches in height each season, reaching a maximum height of 50 to 100 feet in as little as 13 years. The average rubber tree yields about 18-20 pounds of latex annually. A typical queen size latex mattress takes approximately 8 sap collectors (creating valuable local jobs) and 12 acres of rubber trees that, over the course of a year, will also remove 143 tons of carbon dioxide from the environment.
the ultimate natural comfort layer
When it comes to natural pressure point relief, nothing beats mother nature's best recipe. Latex sleeps cool and provides an ultra-smooth contouring feel. After harvesting from the rubber tree, the latex sap is cured into a comfortable luxurious foam in a giant waffle-like mold. Approximately 95% of the latex originates from rubber tree sap. The remaining 5% accounts for essential processing additives that are crucial in maintaining the product's durability and function. Naturepedic prides itself on sourcing latex from reputable suppliers that strive for the healthiest and most eco-friendly formulations. We further validate our latex's safety by adhering to the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class 1 or similar. This indicates that our latex has undergone laboratory tests for harmful substances and the finished foam is considered harmless to human health per the standard.
Note: When we refer to organic latex, we mean latex that is approved per the GOTS organic standard, whether the latex certification is from GOLS or Rainforest Alliance (FSC). This approach supports the expansion of sustainable rubber tree forests while delivering the healthiest mattresses possible.
In summary, our latex is made from roughly 95% natural/organic rubber sap, meets Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class 1, is GOLS/FSC certified, and is approved by GOTS for use in certified organic mattresses. This is the most comprehensive standard available in the marketplace. This helps ensure purity, fair labor practices and support for healthy farming to protect our planet's latex forests. Naturepedic also includes support for sustainable forestry management. So, when we refer to organic latex, we mean latex that is GOTS approved for use in certified organic mattresses, which includes support for the expansion of our planet's sustainable rubber tree forests. The finished latex is specially formulated by density and ILD to our exact specifications with strict quality control to ensure consistent firmness and long-lasting durability.
glueless encased coils
breathable support at its best
When it comes to support, individually wrapped coils take the cake (at least in our humble opinion). Breathability and heat dissipation play an important role in the comfort of a bed, and unlike blocks of foam, coils actually give heat somewhere to go. Beds that sleep hot can lead to increased tossing and turning. Foam mattresses that "sleep cool" often use chemical gimmickery to pull heat away for a cooler sensation only to dish the heat back out later.
custom coils made in-house
At Naturepedic, we produce our own coils in-house using custom built equipment that eliminates all glues and adhesives. This is in contrast to standard techniques which result in globs of glue between the rows of coils. Additionally, our coils are individually wrapped in their own poly-fabric pockets for full-axis articulation, long-lasting durability and the reduction of motion transfer. For the ultimate in organic luxury, our Halcyon series even features coils wrapped in certified organic cotton! As an organic manufacturer, we source high quality, high carbon-content wire made with recycled steel and formulated to our exact specifications. Features full perimeter edge support.
microcoils
Microcoils are miniature coils found in the comfort layers of the Chorus and Latex-Free EOS. They're produced in 1.5" and 3" height and are individually wrapped in their own poly-fabric pockets. This allows the coils to float and fully articulate while eliminating motion transfer. For those with latex allergy concerns, microcoils are an excellent alternative as they dissipate heat efficiently and contour nicely for pressure point relief. Made without any glues or adhesives.
